1 | Personal Video Habits
Typically, I am not a big fan of movies or long videos, so I would not say that I have very strong or consistent video habits. I have a fairly short attention span, which makes it difficult for me to stay engaged unless the content genuinely interests me. Because of this, I usually need to feel emotionally drawn into a movie in order to watch it all the way through. For the most part, I prefer shorter forms of content or videos that feel purposeful rather than something I am watching simply to pass time.
One exception to this is my interest in true crime. I am a big fan of true crime, which leads me to frequently watch YouTube videos focused on murder mysteries and real-life stories from around the world (this is one of my favorite true-crime content creators). The content I watch the most is often episodes of the television show 48 Hours that have been uploaded to YouTube. I have been watching shows like this from a very young age, largely because my mother also enjoyed true crime. Over time, this interest became familiar and comforting.
Every so often, I also spend time on TikTok, usually when I have free time or when I am trying to relax and wind down before falling asleep. I enjoy watching cooking videos, especially simple recipes that feel realistic to make, as well as clothing and makeup hauls. There are times when I try a recipe I saw online or purchase an item that a creator recommended.
When I do watch a movie, it is typically during planned movie nights with my roommates. We usually choose movies that none of us have seen before, which causes the genre to vary depending on everyone's mood. These movie nights happen whenever our schedules line up, usually every couple of weeks, and we tend to stream the movies on platforms like Prime Video or Hulu. Watching movies in this setting feels more intentional and social, which makes the experience more enjoyable for me.
Overall, even though I do not feel that I have many strong personal video habits, I still spend a significant amount of time consuming video content. At times, I find myself wanting to reduce my screen time and focus on more activities that feel productive, such as studying or going for walks. However, I also recognize that video can be a meaningful way for me to relax and disconnect, especially when used in moderation. Finding a balance between productivity and rest is something I continue to reflect on as I become more aware of how I spend my time.
