They pay attention to what we click on, how long we watch something, what we like, and even what we scroll past. All of this helps create a feed that feels very specific to each user.
My prediction is that this type of personalization will keep getting stronger and more detailed. In the future, platforms will not just suggest content based on what we liked before, but also on what we are most likely to want at a certain moment. For example, what shows up on someone’s feed could depend on the time of day or how they are using the app at that time. Because of this, media may start to feel less like something we actively choose and more like something that is constantly being selected for us.
There are clear advantages to this. It makes it easier to find content that matches our interests, and it saves time since we do not have to search as much. It can also introduce people to creators and topics they may not have come across otherwise. This makes the overall experience feel more engaging and personal.
At the same time, there are some negative sides to consider. When we are mostly shown content that matches what we already like, we might not see as many different viewpoints. This can create a limited perspective over time. Another concern is the amount of personal data that is being collected in order to make these recommendations so accurate. This raises questions about privacy and how much control users really have.
Overall, I believe this increase in personalization will play a major role in shaping the future of media and video. It will continue to make content feel more relevant to each person, but it will also make it more important for people to be aware of how these platforms influence what they see.
